Tech Dome Penang will host a special “Inventions Exhibition” brought all the way from the National Science and Technology Museum, Kaoshiung, Taiwan. This is the first international exhibition that is organized in Tech Dome Penang and we are very proud that the prestigious National Science and Technology Museum has chosen Tech Dome to place this exhibition.
The “Inventions Exhibition” has travelled around the region. It was designed and first exhibited at the National Science and Technology Museum in Taiwan. It went to the Guangdong Science Center in 2015, then to Chongqing Science and Technology Museum in 2016 and Macao Science Center in earlier this year. And now, the “Inventions Exhibition” shall be in Tech Dome Penang from 1st October till 31st December 2017.
Traveling over 3000km from Taiwan, this exhibition shall showcase more than 200 inventions, supplemented by videos and interactive exhibits. Designed to create an element of fun and excitement as one ventures through the galleries, visitors will be able to join a cast of three alien characters (comprising a chief and two subordinates) on their mission to explore inventions and understand the process of invention.
This very interesting exhibition is based on G. S. Altshuller’s theories of inventive problem solving or better known as the renown TRIZ method of problem solving. TRIZ is a well-known problem solving methodology that is taught to engineers and innovators throughout the world.
Guided by the aliens, visitors will first be introduced to the definition of inventions and get an overview of the top 100 inventions for everyday life based on British research and opinion of the Taiwanese public. The alien characters will then guide visitors through the Invention Time Tunnel which will showcase historical inventions in 3 important aspects of everyday life i.e. inventions for the household.
There will also be an interactive labyrinth where visitors will be introduced to the thinking process behind inventions, problem solving, and design. Here, each of the first six chambers contains a problem to be solved; if the visitor succeeds in solving all six of them, a seventh chamber will be unlocked where the visitor can take a photo with the aliens.
Among the highlights of the Inventions Exhibition are the tea-and-water-separating teapots, a multi-mode Tandem Bicycle, the famous mechanical SupaMop and also international public inventions such as Help Desk, Foldscope and Lucky Iron Fish. Also in the showcase, will be the Light for Africa, a lightweight low-power rechargeable lamp which was designed and developed to help students in Burkina Faso, Africa and which emphasised the fact that inventions need not necessarily be purely motivated by profit. Budding inventors will also get an understanding on how to claim Property Rights and Patent for their inventions and also obtain information on venues and dates for famous international exhibitions.
With the great success of the Inventions Exhibition regionally, Tech Dome Penang has decided to host it for a 3-month period to ensure that children, and even adults, will get the opportunity to visit, particularly during the year-end school holidays. The exhibition is expected to be launched by Penang Chief Minister, YAB Tuan Lim Guan Eng on October 2nd.
In conjunction with this exhibition, NSTM will run 5 days of invention workshops and lectures for the public and schools by Professor Yu Gang, Chen from Far East University, Tainan, Taiwan.
Tech Dome shall also conduct various workshops and training for children and adults in how to invent using the TRIZ methodology. Check out our Facebook and Website for announcements of these workshops. You might be the next inventor! See you there!
